Analysis:
This article presents the unofficial estimated heights for the characters in the anime. The current official height for both Komura Kaede and Mie Ai still remains undisclosed, this article was made in order to fill that gap. Although there had already been mentions regarding the heights of both characters on the Sukinako ga Megane wo Wasureta Wiki, several discrepancies in the appearance description made it confusing or unreliable for the readers, and so therefore we have decided to make this article.
The height data listed in this article is entirely derived on our own research and observation. Komura Kaede’s height was estimated height observing his height difference relative to a Japanese classroom desk. Mie Ai’s height was estimated by scaling her height difference next to Komura Kaede.
In this estimate, the frame at 3:05 this Youtube Video from Ani-One Asia (First Episode of the Anime) will be used as our main frame of reference. In the frame, we can see how the maximum height of the desk levels the same as the upper thigh/lower groin of Kaede, this perspective will allow us to create an estimated height for Komura based on how tall the desk is. Japanese classroom desks often vary in height, from 28 inches (71 cm) to 32 inches (81 cm). In this scenario, we will need to consider another factor in assuming the height for the desk. Considering that Komura Kaede’s name literally means “small village”, and also by observing his stature in the anime, it could be very possible that he is a boy with small stature, and so therefore if we create an estimated height for him, it should not deviate way too far from the average Japanese highschooler height which is around 170cm. In the frame, we can clearly see that if we put in 30 inches 76 cm (or 30 inches) as the assumed height for the desk, for its maximum height to level similar to the upper thigh of Kaede, we would need give Kaede an estimated height range of somewhere around 179 cm (done on Hikaku Sitatter Height Comparison Tool), therefore violating our idea that Kaede is a boy with small stature. In this case, we would need to create another assumption for the desk’s maximum height, giving it the lowest possible height which is 28 inches or 71 cm. If the maximum height of the desk is 71 inches, then for someone like Kaede, who’s upper thigh height is relative to 71 cm, he would be probably somewhere around the height of 170 cm.
Now that we have Kaede’s estimated height, we can now proceed and try to create an estimate for Mie Ai’s height. Mie Ai’s height would be estimated by scaling her next to Kaide, who’s assumed height is around 170cm. The image below, is a volume cover photo for 11th volume of the manga, the frame gives us a visual perspective between the height differences of the two characters.
The image gives us a clear idea that Ai’s height matches the upper nose or eye height of Kaede. This perspective will be used as input on Hikaku Sitatter Height Comparison Tool. After some comparisons on the height chart tool, we figured out that if Ai’s height is relative to the eye height of Kaede, then she should be somewhere around the height of 158 cm.
