#1 Beavis and Butthead Interjection

One of the writers of the kid show was involved with the script of Beavis and Butthead. Billy Arinson wrote two episodes in the first season of Beavis and Butthead. Beavis and Butthead is a far-cry from being a kid show, in fact it is the complete opposite as it features some gruesome, violent themes and language. To add to that, Billy was also a writer for a show called Courage the Cowardly Dog, a kid show that has bits of horror element.

#2 Kept Real

The Octonauts show was kept real and true because the people who worked on the show didn’t simply throw in random stuff for the audience. While the show was being made, two marine biologists were involved in the process. Lara A. Ferry-Graham and Michael H. Graham helped with the sealife facts presented in the show. Michael Graham was involved with the film “Finding Nemo.”

#3 Chinese Favorite

Although the show originated from English origins, the Octonauts had garnered more than 4 billion views in mainland China. Some of the characters in the show share the same voice actor. This means that when these characters interact its basically just one person talking to himself. Shellington and Inkling have the same voice actor. Barnacles, UK Dashi, and Peso’s voice actor often use their voice for other minor characters.

#6 Animal Themed Vehicles

Almost all vehicles in the show, from the Octopod until the Gups, are all animal themed. The Octopod is the main mobile home of the Octonauts and the Gups are small submersible pods. The Octopod, like its name, looks like an octopus while the gups are labelled with letters and each of them comes with different animal designs. The Gup-A for a example looks like an anglerfish while the Gup-B looks like a tiger shark.

#7 Intermittent Accents

Some of the characters have different accents based on what language version you watch the show. Peso for example, has a British accent in the original English version but in the US American version, Peso has a Spanish accent.

In the show, Barnacles is the author of a book called “How to Pilot the Octopod; Third Edition.” This book’s existence is only canon in the show and it is nowhere to be found as it does not exist anywhere for anyone to read.

All of the characters in the show have an animal element within them. All of the Octonauts have a real life counterpart either marine or land animal. The creatures they encounter are also loosely based on real life marine animals. Peso is a penguin character in the show. He is also the medic of the crew and is the only character who has a known age count of 18+. According to the Wiki, Peso has a Spanish accent in the US version of the show while in the British (English) version his accent is British. The Wiki says that this should match his name “Peso”, because the word “peso” is mostly associated with Spanish currency, however though, this is not true anymore because Spain no longer use peso for their currency. Currently, there are only 8 countries that use the word “peso” in their currency and Spain is not one of those. The writers probably referred it to Mexico but we are not sure.

Among all Octonauts, only Peso and Barnacles ever use a night cap when they sleep, all the other characters don’t. We have no clue why this is and even more strange is that both Peso and Barnacles don’t even have long hairs that needs a night cap to hold in place while sleeping, which is absolutely ridiculous.

#13 Transgender Kwazii

Some fans assume that Kwazii is a transgender. Canonically, Kwazii is referred to as a “he” but in one of the original books he once was referred to with female pronouns, this for some reason went viral and so the idea that he is trans stuck for most of the fans.

Octoalert is a feature in the ship (the Octopod) that when activated, all the Octonauts would gather in one place and discuss an important matter. Hmmm, this sounds kinda familiar.

According to TV Tropes, in one book called “The Octonauts and the Frown Fish”, the plot is very is idiotic. It revolves around the Octonauts trying to help the catfish turn its frown into a smile. They had to do a lot of things which would have been totally unnecessary if only Shellington realized that the catfish was actually not frowning, but rather it was just upside down. Catfish turns upside down when they are trying to hunt for food.
