Have you noticed Paani’s Indian accent? If so, you got a keen sense of hearing! Did you know that his accent can be attributed to his origin as a Macaque Monkey? According to the Octonauts Wiki, Macaque Monkeys typically reside in the Asian continent, specifically in India. 


2. RHESUS MACAQUE MONKEY

One of the Macaque species that fits Paani is the Rhesus Macaque Monkey. This Monkey’s facial features have a close resemblance to our new friend. Rhesus Macaque Monkeys have brown-grayish fur and pale pink face. Another thing that this species’ similarity with Hydrologist Paani is their love for the water. As revealed by the Animal Corner website, Rhesus Monkeys are expert swimmers and finds swimming enjoyable. 


3. BONNET MACAQUE MONKEY

Do you love to snack? Then, this Macaque species will be your best friend! But before that, do you know Panini’s special snack? The “Paani Patties” are made out of insects, fruits, and seeds. That said, it is similar to the Bonnet Macaque’s favorite diet. Since this species is an omnivore, they eat insects, cereals, flowers, nuts, and fruits. 


4. ASSAM MACAQUE MONKEY

The Assam Macaque Monkeys are known for their social nature, making them a perfect real-life counterpart of Paani. From the World Atlas website, we have read that Assam Macaque Monkeys have to implement hierarchy within their group. Females are mostly the one who leads the group and then, the role is passed down to the next generation. 


5. ARUNACHAL MACAQUE MONKEY

Here’s another monkey species that is a lookalike for Paani. The New England Primate Conservancy website revealed that the Arunachal Macaque Monkeys have a stocky physique and a yellowish-brown coat. The only difference they have with Paani in terms of appearance is their short tail, whereas Paani has a longer one. Just like the other Macaque species, Arunachal Macaque Monkeys are social animals. But an interesting fact about them is that they help in dispersing seeds in the forest.


6. WHITE-CHEEKED MACAQUE MONKEY

Due to their elusiveness, the White-cheeked Macaque Monkeys are considered “the most important zoological discovery of the decade.” They remained living in isolation until they were discovered in 2013 when a highway was built in China. Though they were found in China, this Macaque Monkey species also reside in India. A unique behavior that these monkeys display is their grooming sessions. Experts believe that this is their way to create a strong familial bond.


7. BARBARY MACAQUE MONKEY

Lastly, the adorable Barbary Macaque Monkeys will impress you. Unlike the other monkey species, the Barbary Macaque Monkeys are less aggressive and willing to share swimming holes. With their appearance, they could also pass as Paani’s real-life version.
