WHAT IS MARTIN MYSTERY ABOUT?

Martin Mystery is a French-Italian-Canadian animated series produced by Marathon Media (now called Zodiak Kids Studios) and Image Entertainment Corporation. This comedy suspense-fantasy series follows the story of two teenagers, Martin and Diana, who are on a mission to solve and investigate strange paranormal phenomena. Their supernatural adventures were accompanied by Java the Caveman and alien side-kick, Billy. Now that we’ve reminisced about the series’ plot, let’s now dive straight into the facts!


GENERAL FACTS

1. Did you know that this series was developed in three different countries? The Martin Mystery Fandom Wiki revealed that the series was created, written, and animated in Tokyo, produced in France, and the English dubbing was done in Canada.

2. Martin Mystery was aired on October 1, 2003, while its last episode was aired on March 3, 2006.

3. The series’ first episode was “It Came From the Bog,” while its final episode was “It’s Alive: Part 2.

4. Based on Episode Ninja’s popularity voting, “The Return of the Beast” was the best episode. On the other hand, “Attack of the Sandman” was the worst.

5. Overall, the series has three seasons and sixty-six episodes. 

6. The Martin Mystery series has a crossover episode with its sister animated series, Totally Spies! The episode was entitled, “Totally Mystery Much?”  It was aired on Totally Spies’ season five, episode 14. However, out of the five main characters, only Martin appeared.

7. Back in December 2013, Marathon Media confirmed the series’ fourth season’s development. But up to this day, there is no further announcement for the series’s future.

8. The Martin Mystery series was based on an Italian comic book, Martin Mystère. The comic book was written by Alfredo Castelli and contained mature themes and violence; hence, intended for mature audiences.

9. The series was run by different networks such as Discovery Kids, Fox Box or Fox Kids, Vrak, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network.


MAIN CHARACTERS

The main characters of the series are mostly comprised of The Center’s members, such as Martin Mystery, Diana Lombard, Java the Caveman, M.O.M., and Billy the Martian. These characters appeared in numerous episodes and seasons.


MARTIN MYSTERY

1. The first monster encountered by Martin is Venoso, a shape-shifter. 

2. He is obsessed with paranormal activities.

3. Martin is the only possessor of the high-tech device, U-Watch.

4. Despite being an underachiever at school, Martin possesses a high level of intelligence and intuition, making him a top paranormal investigator of The Center.

5. In the series, Martin is Diana Lombard’s step-sibling. However, the Martin Mystère comic book portrayed them differently. They were a couple then eventually got married. 

6. Martin Mystery was voiced by Sam Vincent. He is known to voice characters with high eccentric voices. One of his notable characters is Edd, also known as Double-D, from Ed, Edd, n Eddy.


DIANA LOMBARD

1. Diana is the opposite of Martin; she’s more serious, an overachiever, and has a temper.

2. Though Martin is the only possessor of the U-Watch, Diana temporarily wielded the gadget when Martin transformed into a monster.

3. She has a strong resemblance to Samantha Simpson, a character from Totally Spies!

4. Out of all the paranormal investigations, Diana was always used as the bait.

5. She was voiced by Kelly Sheridan, who is notably known for her voice-acting on the Barbie films and My Little Pony.


JAVA THE CAVEMAN

1. Java’s age is estimated to be 200,000 years old. 

2. Since he is a caveman, he barely speaks. But when he does, he can only utter simple words and phrases.

3. Java’s comic book counterpart is completely mute.

4. Java’s origin of joining the investigator team remains debated. The idea that he was transported in time was mostly accepted.

5. Java’s voice was provided by Dale Wilson, who is known for his Transformers T.V. series.


M.O.M.

1.  It was hinted in the series that M.O.M. is a workaholic since she doesn’t take any sick leaves.

2. Before M.O.M. became The Center’s mystery organization manager, she was an ice cream truck driver.

3. Her real name and age remain unknown.

4. She uses the alias of Ms. Olivia Mandell.

5. Her favorite holiday is Christmas.

6. She was voiced by actress and voice actress Teryl Rothery.


BILLY THE MARTIAN

1. Back on his home planet, Billy was a violent warrior and was called Ganthar.

2. He was also a famous supermodel on his planet.

3. He came to Earth in 1947 when the Roswell U.F.O. Incident happened.

4. He was also voiced by Martin Mystery’s voice actor, Samuel Vincent. 


SUPPORTING CHARACTERS

The supporting characters are the ones who have small parts in most of the episodes. Most of them have fates that are undetermined or unknown. The series’ supporting characters were Gerard Mystery, Jenni Anderson, and Marvin


GERARD MYSTERY

1. Gerard was the one who taught Martin how to twist a lynx’s ears.

2. Unlike his son, Gerard isn’t a fan of paranormal activities. 

3. He was voiced by Michael Donovan, an Emmy-nominated voice actor and director. 


JENNI ANDERSON

1. Jenni is Martin’s love interest, but Martin’s immaturity turns her off.

2. She is the most popular girl at Torrington Academy.

3. Jenni was voice by Tabitha St. German, who is known for voicing Rarity in My Little Pony.


MARVIN

1. Marvin is Martin’s nemesis.

2. Despite bearing an uncanny similarity with Martin, Jenni has a massive crush on him.

3. He has traveled around the world frequently since his father was a pilot. 

4. He was voiced by Matt Hill, who is best known for his voice acting role as Ed in the Ed, Edd, n Eddy animated series.

1. According to Vincent Chalvon-Demersay’s IMDb page, he has 25 producer credits and ten writing credits.

2. Vincent Chalvon-Demersay is the former C.E.O. of Zodiak Kids Studios, formerly known as Marathon Media.

3. Vincent Chalvon-Demersay was the creator and writer for both Martin Mystery and Totally Spies! series. 

4. Aside from Martin Mystery and Totally Spies!, Vincent Chalvon-Demersay created more spy-themed animated series such as Team Galaxy and The Amazing Spiez!

5. After Vincent Chalvon-Demersay stepped down as the C.E.O. of Zodiak Kids Studios, he founded Bien-Sûr Studios. However, he’s still an active member of the Zodiak Kids Studios.
