‘State of Play’ Cast: Then and Now (2009 vs. 2021)


This high-octane thriller was one of the most popular entries at the 2009 box office. Now over ten years later, let’s look at what the cast of State of Play is doing now.


1. Russell Crowe

An article from IMDb shows that after his role in State of Play, Russell Crowe, who played Cal McAffrey, continued to book numerous Hollywood projects, such as Noah and The Nice Guys.

He then got divorced in 2018 from Danielle Spencer after their 15-year marriage. Right now, he’s currently relaxing at his home in Sydney after finishing his new movie Unhinged.


2. BEN AFFLECK

According to his IMDb, Ben Affleck, who played Stephen Collins, continuously landed roles in movies like The Town and Argo after starring on State of Play.

He then played Batman for three movies and has another one coming in 2022. And right now, Ben’s currently working on his new film, The Tender Bar, which is directed by George Clooney.


3. RACHEL MCADAMS

Next is Rachel McAdams. According to her IMDb, after playing Della Frye on State of Play, Rachel McAdams went on to star as Inez in the Romance film Midnight in Paris and Sacha Pfeiffer on the oscar-winning movie Spotlight.

She also gave birth to her first child with her boyfriend Jamie in 2018 and is currently expecting another one on the way.


4. Helen Mirren

Helen Mirren, who played Cameron Lynne, has been consistently getting projects after her role in State of Play, with The Duke being her most recent and Eye in the Sky being her most notable.

Moreover, Helen is currently preparing for her role as Hespera in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which comes out in 2023.


5. Robin Wright

After State of Play, Robin Wright, who played Anne Collins, starred in movies such as Moneyball and Rampart. She then became Claire Underwood in House of Cards for six seasons before being Princess Diana’s aunt in Wonderwoman. And just recently, Robin made her directorial debut in the movie Land, where she’s also the lead actress.


6. Jason Bateman

After State of Play’s release, Jason Bateman, who played Dominic Foy, never missed a year without releasing a new film. With his most recent one being Thunder Force and his most notable one being Game Night.

And just recently, Jason won a Screen Actors Guild Award for his role on the Netflix series Ozark.


7. Jeff Daniels

Last on our list is Jeff Daniels, who played George Fergus. After State of Play, Jeff went on to land roles in movies like Steve Jobs and The Martian. He also made a sequel to his iconic film Dumb and Dumber, which got mixed reactions from fans.

And recently, Jeff finished working on a documentary titled Hemingway and a new album called Alive and Well Enough.
