5. AUSTRALIA
We have the fifth on the list, Australia, with 500 sets of unidentified human bodies. Because of the high number of cases, the Australian Federal Police have now launched a National DNA Program to help uncover the bodies’ names. According to the AFP Commissioner Reece Kershaw, “They are not just a statistic. They are someone’s child, parent, husband or wife.”
4. CANADA
Fourth on our list is Canada, with over 700 unidentified bodies registered on the National database. New reconstructive technology has been developed to specifically help solve the mystery regarding the identities of these bodies. According to Vancouver News, there are already 15 3D -printed versions of skulls.
3. ENGLAND
According to the National Crime Agency, the third on our list is England, with 150 annual cases. In an article you can find on the BBC website, joggers and passersby mainly discovered these remains during the late winter or autumn. Moreover, the oldest case recorded in the database is of a man found in east London. 2016 marked the 50th year of his discovery.
2. INDIA
The second rank goes to India, with 200 unidentified bodies every year. The All India Institutes of Medical Sciences revealed that the bodies were mainly found in South and South-East Delhi. Furthermore, Chittaranjan Behara, an associate professor, stated, “Across Delhi, it is about 1,000 and some 40,000 across India. The police are not able to identify bodies in more than 10 percent of such cases.”

With approximately 4,400 unidentified bodies each year, the United States ranks first. As reported by America’s National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, over 600,000 individuals go missing in the country annually. Then, from that number, about 4,400 unidentified bodies get recovered.
