Top 6 Most Beautiful Finches

The authentic finches are small to medium size that are in the Fringillidae family. They have stout conical bills that they use to eat nuts and seeds, and they usually have a colorful plumage. Hence, we’ve created a list of the top six most beautiful finches, and check each of them below.

1. GOULDIAN FINCH

The Gouldian finch is probably the most beautiful of all. They are larger than the Zebra finch and native to northern Australia, and there are thousands of color combinations available. Gouldians are full of bright colors that make them more exciting to watch.

The head is usually black or red, with a purple chest and yellow belly. They have a bright green back and blue tail. The bill is whitish-pink, and the feet are orange. As domestic birds, Gouldians are not as hardy as others as they appear to be susceptible to a viral disease.

2. ORANGE WEAVER OR RED BISHOP

This very exotic bird has a particular way of changing its appearance with the seasons. When they are “in season,” they appear with black beaks, the top of the head, area around the eyes, and abdomen are black, the wings are brown, and the rest of its body, like the chin, throat, chest, nape of the neck, back, under-tail, and upper tail coverts are full of bright, beautiful orange color, sometimes red.

3. CORDON BLEU WAXBILL

This cute little finch is normally calm and quiet but defensive of its nest. In general, the Cordon Bleu has brown feathering above, blue feathering on the face, breast, flanks, and tail, and buff underparts; the beak is a deep pink. But this type of finch is divided into three species, the blue-breasted, the blue-capped, and the cheeked. The Blue Breasted Cordon Bleu is the smallest of the three. These birds are very entertaining and easy to breed.

4. ZEBRA FINCHES

Zebra finches are one of the cutest and are native to Australia’s grassland areas, and have over 100 variations in patterns and markings. They are famous as pets for their availability and price. Their colors include white, fawn, black, silver, blue, pied, cream, and cinnamon, but more color variety is being developed every year with breeding. Zebra finches are very adaptable and lively birds.

5. STAR FINCH

Star finches are a very hardy little type of bird. They breed easily, are relatively peaceful, and can be kept with other small seed-eaters without too many problems. The normal star finch has a redhead and beak and red barring on the tail. The mutations in yellow and fawn are now available. Besides that, they have beautiful tiny dots that look like a mass of stars above their chest and neck that will give them a very delicate appearance.

6. TRICOLORED MUNIA

The Tricolored Munia is originally from Southern India and Sri Lanka. Its behavior is normally peaceful. The males have dark brown plumage in the back and a clear white chest. The head is entirely black, which gives it a sophisticated look. The females are very similar, with the difference that hens tend to have a smaller beak and paler fringes of the tail and tail coverts.
