Iguanas are lizards known for their saggy skin on their throats and their spines from heads down to their tails. In fact, they can live up to 15 to 20 years if you give them proper care. Because of this, we’ve decided to create this list of the most beautiful iguanas by checking each of them below.
1. FIJI BANDED IGUANA
The Fiji Banded iguanas are stunning creatures of bright green color and short spikes. Male and female Fijian banded iguanas are sexually dimorphic, with males being slightly larger than females. Both are colored emerald green, but males have two to three blue to light green stripes that run along the body, and their tails also feature a number of these bands.
Females may have some light spots or partial bars. Their underside and nostrils are colored yellow, and the eyes are a red-orange color. So astonishingly beautiful!
2. RED IGUANA MORPH
These red iguana morphs show true red colors on the body, head, and tail. However, most red iguanas have a green belly – which actually makes them even more beautiful. There are different red coloration types – brick red, flame red, rust red, and similar. These types of iguanas have a very exotic appearance.
3. GRAND CAYMAN BLUE IGUANA
Blue iguanas are also in danger of extinction, so they can be hard to find. This large creature’s skin is dusky-blue to gray with cross bands that are often barely visible. Its coloration provides great camouflage among the rocks and scrubs it inhabits. During the mating season, these lizards become a brighter blue. Cayman Island blue iguanas are found only on Grand Cayman Island. They prefer dry, rocky forests in coastal areas, which may contain cactus and other thorny plants.
4. CHUCKWALLA
These iguanas primarily inhabit Mexico and the southwestern United States. You can find them in the hot rocky areas and islands, and they grow around 15 inches long. Male chuckwallas are slightly larger than females. Besides that, females have a slightly narrower head and snout. Their color depends on geographic location, temperature, mood, and environment. Their color helps them camouflage and blend in with their surroundings.
5. SNOW OR BLIZZARD IGUANA
Snow, or Blizzard iguanas, are truly white. Their whole body is white. Blizzard iguana has been artificially created by breeding a blue Axanthic iguana with a T- albino in Brazil. This beautiful creation is mesmerizing to watch as it moves around with that bright white color of their skin. It can show a few glimpses of color depending on the light.
6. CUBAN ROCK IGUANA
Cuban rock iguanas are large and bulky iguanas. They are also in danger of extinction, and they live for around 60 years if kept in proper conditions. They are very calm and inquisitive when tamed. Cuban iguanas have a long, straight tail. They also have sharp claws and short, powerful limbs.
Their large flap of skin is called dewlap that hangs from the throat area that’s used to adapt to the temperature regulation. Moreover, their colors range from dark grays to light browns with some noticeable banding.
