Top 5 Most Beautiful Birds

Having feathers is the main characteristic of birds that distinguishes them from other animals. Birds are warm-blooded vertebrates with four-chambered hearts. Most of them are diurnal in habitat, and there are more than a thousand extinct species across the globe. Hence, we’ve created this list of the top five most beautiful birds, and check one of them below.

1. THE SECRETARY

The Secretary

Secretary birds are so-called because of their quill-like crests at the back of their heads with pens tucked into their wigs.

The Secretary bird looks like a stork or crane than a bird of prey. This tall bird has a small head with small eyes and a hooked beak. Its plumage is a light bluish-grey, and it has a red-colored face. The feathers at their thighs, the tip of their wings, and the back of their heads are black. Their legs are powerful and are used for striking and pursuing prey.

Secretary birds have two elongated central feathers on their tail, extending beyond their feet when it flies. They have tough scales on their legs, protecting their legs from snake bites. Besides that, they don’t have grasping toes like other prey birds, but they have thick and blunt ones, with short curved nails on the ends.

2. VICTORIA CROWNED PIGEON

Victoria Crowned Pigeon

The Victoria Crowned Pigeon is considered one of the world’s most giant pigeons and is found in Papua’s lowland rainforest, New Guinea. This beautiful bird can reach twenty-six inches and a weight of two and a half kilograms.

This large pigeon has deep blue-grey feathers, a maroon chest, and a black mask punctuated by brilliant red eyes. What makes it special is its crest. It’s one of three crowned pigeon species that has a clearly defined crest topped by white-tipped feathers. The beautiful plumes help give the pigeon its elegant, regal appearance.

3. MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS

 Mountain Bluebirds

The male Mountain Bluebirds lend a bit of cerulean sparkle to open habitats across the western part of North America. You can find them flitting between perches in mountain meadows. These are not shy of humans, and they live in fairly open countries.

Adult males of this species are impressive. Their bodies are turquoise blue that fades into white on the belly. Females often have a dominant gray color with blue wings and tails. Some may show a pale ruff on the chest. Also, note the slender bill and longer wings compared to other bluebirds. Forages in open habitats with few trees. May form large flocks in winter. Often perches on wire or fence posts. It nests in cavities.

4. GRANDALA

Grandala

The Grandala bird is often seen swirling in flocks above mountain passes, scrubby alpine forests, and highland meadows. This large thrush is unlike any other.

Adult males are a deep, almost eye-searing blue with jet-black wings. The females and immatures are brown with white streaks all over the head and underparts and weak white bars on the wings. They have long-billed and sharp-winged profiles, along with flocking behavior. They are more reminiscent of starlings than thrushes.

5. THE NICOBAR PIGEON

The Nicobar Pigeon

The Nicobar Pigeon is considered one of the most beautiful of the many species of pigeons or doves. You can find them in the Islands of Nicobar, southwest peninsular Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Solomans, and Palau. Once known to be found in abundance, their numbers in the wild are declining as they are frequently hunted.

It has a dark slaty grey body with copper-bronze upperparts and lustrous metallic blue-green and. Its mane-like neck hackles and sharply contrasting white tail coverts and tail can easily be distinguished. Females are smaller than males with shorter neck hackles and brown underparts. Youngs are born dull grey without the neck hackles and a bronzy green tail instead of white.
