1. NEMO
Nemo is a clownfish. They are called such because of the bright orange, black and white stripes all over their bodies that resemble the paint on a clown’s face. They are not easy to find. In fact, they live very far from us, in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
2. DORY
Dory is a favorite for both kids and adults. In real life, Dory’s name is actually Blue tang, and it belongs to the family of surgeonfishes. There are many species of surgeonfish, but blue tangs are the most famous. Thanks to Dory!
3. GILL
Gill’s name in real life is Moorish Idol. Gill hated being trapped in a glass tank. He wanted to be free and return to the ocean. In real life, a Moorish Idol will think like Gill because they are considered difficult fish to keep in captivity.
4. PEACH
Peach in real life is a starfish, but they are not actually fish. They are also called “marine stars.” You can find them in almost any place in the world. The family of starfish has members in every ocean and sea!
5. BLOAT
Bloat is a porcupine pufferfish that has an awkward problem. Every time it gets mad or stressed, it bloats up and looks like a ball! The other fishes have to help him deflate. In real life, pufferfishes do exist, and that bloating mechanism actually helps them avoid predators. They are also very poisonous.
6. JACQUES
Jacques, in real life, is one of the most fantastic sea animals. This French-accented character was inspired by real-life cleaner shrimps, which dedicate their lives to clean parasites from fishes. Both animals benefit from this, the fish gets parasites removed from their body, and the Shrimp gets to eat them.
7. BRUCE
Remember: fishes are friends, not food! Bruce is an atypical vegetarian shark that refuses to eat fish. However, in the wild, Bruce would be a Great White Shark, and he will surely eat fish as part of his diet.
Have you seen Bruce’s multiple rows of teeth? White sharks have more than 300 teeth!
8. CRUSH
Chilled and relaxed, Crush is a Green Sea turtle that’s 150 years old! In real life, green sea turtles can live up to 100 years and more. They are true vegetarians because they only eat sea plants that are believed to be their greenish-looking fat.
9. MR RAY
Nemo’s school teacher is a spotted eagle ray in real life. This type of ray can grow up to 14.6 feet! (5 meters). They are excellent hunters that swim gracefully all across the ocean. They are also very dangerous. They have venomous spines on their tails.
10. NIGEL
Nigel is a Brown pelican. Marlin and Dory were fortunate during the movie because pelicans love to eat fish! Nigel tries to help them find Nemo, and just like in real life, seagulls were trying to stop him because they actually like to steal fish from pelicans!
